As promised...part II!

So this one isn't quite as much fun as the last one, but I think it's still useful. The template was too small!!! I had to make it bigger by about two inches, and I still had trouble fitting everything in.

The earlier request still stands. If you can think of more of these cliches, things you've seen a lot of, please let me know.

HAH! Agreed, so hard here not to agree.
DEM struck a point there, so many people do that way too often. I mean there is nothing wrong with leaving a couple of loose ends!
The chan/san/sama abuse is ridiculous.

True that. But, I think that if you're writing in the right context (for instance, if the story is actually set in Japan and not a fictional place, as with Naruto), then it's fine to use the ethnic suffixes. But if you're putting -desu after everything, or if you're peppering your text with so many ethnic terms that your footnotes look like a novel, then that is NOT cool.

Deus Ex Machina is almost omnipresent, but mostly when the writer ends up writing themselves into a proverbial corner. Such as when you've got all of these separate plotlines and they all lead to this one place, but what do you do then? DEM seems to be the only option to many people. So God comes down from on high and makes it all better again...

Sorry about the late reply!
I've read novels like that, well attempted too. Can we spell FAIL?

I've noticed that Deus Ex Machina is more popular with titles that have a stron fan base, and where the pressure is unreal to wind everything into a clean little pile. Then there are those stupid time limits publishers and the like dump on their writers :iconfacepalmplz:

As for fanfiction, I think that's when they get lazy, and DEM is what I am trying to avoid at all costs!

True. I guess it's pretty lazy not to plan ahead.

I think I plan way too ahead. How do you make a romance minus the crummy? D:

Add something else to it. Try action/romance or mystery/romance. As long as the romance is slightly less the focus than whatever else you're mixing it with, then it should cut out the crappy pretty well.

Well, not quite DEM, but similar enough, is where they make an OC or Main character so powerful that they might as well just make one chapter saying they destroyed the universe. I haven't read that many, but that's thankfully because they are obvious from the description (If any. Thank god for FF.net). Honestly, it is a strong pull, but resist >_<'.

Well, I must say that I've seen my fair share of that, too. The OC part can fit into the Mary Sue category, since often those characters that are overpowered seem to be the one the author knows best. Who do they know better than themselves? But I could be wrong on that one. A lot of people just create those characters to give the story something more, but it ends up usually just being TOO MUCH. But when they go and take a main character and turn them into something they're not...my eyes roll back in my head and my finger itches toward the back button.

Yeh. I try to give any of my characters weaknesses and such. And personality issues, usually with authority.
